Signs of a Cult
A cult is a group that deviates doctrinally from a parent or host religion. Cults would include Mormonism, JW’s, Christian Scientists, etc.
1-Group members give many superficial answers to direct questions
2-Group doesn’t divulge monetary history or constitution of beliefs. The average member usually isn’t privy to this information.
3-No sign of the cross
4-They take oaths or there are ‘swearings in’ at induction ceremonies Hosea 10:4 Example: Masons call Jesus the Great Architect of the Universe. But how great can He be if only the lodge, through the Worshipful Master, can take you from darkness to light?
5-Person shuns family or close friends for no apparent reason
6-Group stands on 1 or 2 verses as the basis for their entire belief
7-‘Outsiders wouldn’t understand’ what they’re saying
8-They’re usually argumentative. They’ve been trained to provoke the anger in you to take away their guilt. This gives them a reason to verbally attack.
9-They’ve been trained to believe they’re being persecuted and/or superior.
10-Scriptures are not subject to private interpretation. God has never given this authority to anyone, including their prophet.
11-Their religion has evolved since its inception
12-Works based salvation is necessary. Jesus’ blood atonement wasn’t enough for you to achieve salvation.
13-Salvation has a completely different meaning from what the Bible states. There are different stages, places and hidden names.
14-They’ll have other written works in addition to the Bible
15-They are the ‘only true church’
How To Witness
2 Tim. 3:16-Remember to always have a reason to give for your belief Acts 16:31-Believe in the Lord and you shall be saved, you and your household.
1-Don’t explain Christianity by experiential reasoning but by demonstrative explanation only.
2-Remember they’ve given up their spirit, albeit unknowingly at times, to Ba’al.
3-Having the last word will kill your witness. Walk away.
4-Body language is of utmost importance. For example; don’t fold your arms around a Mormon, especially while praying.
5-When they give their testimony, interrupt them. Make a noise by
dropping a book, etc., to bring
6-Ask them what the most significant thing is to them personally about the
organization. This causes
7-When they use scripture to defend themselves, ask them to qualify it for
you. i.e.; location of verse,
8-Remember that as a Christian you’re dealing in the spiritual realm, not w/ the actual person in the cult.
9-When they ask you where you got your authority from; tell them you got
it from the same place John
10-Please don’t tell them they’re in a cult. They’ll figure this out on their own when they get out.
11-Last but not least, if you can’t witness in love, please, don’t witness at all. John 15:17 |
